Many car makers have nearly switched from developing Baja 1000-ready Sports utility vehicles. It’s not that there isn’t still romance within the adventure of crashes over boulders at top speed and getting caked on the dust of desert competition. It’s only that modern car-based crossover Sports utility vehicles like the Honda CR-V, with its increased traveling position; 70-plus cubic feet of freight space (with the rear seats down); friendly fuel economy, ride, and handling; and available four-wheel drive, offer pretty much everything today’s buyer needs in this particular car.
Indeed, as the CR-V first broke cover in 1997 for a Civic-based high-roof wagon, Honda was rebadging Isuzu Rodeos as Passports along with the number-one-selling Sports utility vehicle in the states was the truckulent body-on-frame Ford Explorer. But Americans, notoriously dismissive of hatchbacks, have embraced the Sport utility vehicle cum wagon cum crossover by the freeway load, and such cars have become a superior, bestselling body style-better than small sedans, mid-size sedans, and even pickup trucks. Including a top of that heap is the CR-V, that was the highest-selling crossover/SUV inside the Us. in 2014.
